A celebration of core values
The
Eight Core Values are the basis of our character and ethics
education, and have been a consistent part of the EdisonLearning
culture since the first school opened. While reading, math,
science, and social studies make up the core academic focus, it is
just as important for students to learn and appreciate wisdom,
justice, courage, compassion, respect, responsibility, hope, and
integrity.
In the 2008 - 2009 school year, EdisonLearning school partners
will participate in a new program, the “Core Values Celebration.”
Beginning in November, schools will receive the first installment
of a year-long initiative that affirms, recognizes, and celebrates
our students. The program includes materials and ideas to both
enhance the learning environment and emphasize the Eight Core
Values. Some of the elements anchoring this program include:
A gigantic wall gallery of the Eight Core Values. These are
eight separate oversize pieces (21" x 27") designed to use between
eight and sixteen feet of hallway to showcase the values, student
work, etc. They are made of extremely durable material to be used
year after year.
A series of correspondence cards branded with Eight Core Value
tenets. The cards will be used by teachers to write personal notes
of affirmation to their students each month.
The program will culminate with celebrations and awards in the
last month of school.
It is important to recognize that many principals and former
principals in the organization gave input and feedback as the
program was developed. EdisonLearning is the only educational
service provider that can tap into program users so meaningfully,
and our programs are better because of it.
The celebration will bring the Eight Core Values to life, and
reinforce skills so vital to the growth and success of our students
outside the classroom.
