Quality assessment is a key feature of Learning Force™.
Pre- and post-assessments, in combination with the follow up that
occurs throughout the program, support the Learning Force
customized learning model and help teachers monitor student
progress towards individual program goals. Our data-driven system
also provides accurate student records and requires no manual
grading by teachers.
Learning Force pre- and
post-assessments support customized learning
Criterion referenced assessments (multiple-choice questions) are
used at the beginning and end of both Reading Force™ and
Math Force™ to determine each student’s knowledge of every
grade-level-correlated strand and skill contained in the
program.
- Information from the pre-assessment is used to set individual
student program goals which are incorporated into the initial
Individual Achievement Plan. That plan is provided to the student’s
teacher and parent(s).
- Information about student skill gains from the post-assessment
is included on each student’s final Individual Achievement Plan,
which is provided to the student’s teacher and parent(s).
Information on skill gains is also reported to the district and
school through end-of-program reports that are created by
EdisonLearning.
- The assessments are given on bubble sheets to provide
additional standardized test practice prior to state
assessments.
- All lessons contain additional tools to help teachers assess
skill acquisition during instruction.
Reading Force
After every six reading lessons, our curriculum includes a skill
review lesson containing the previous six focus skills within one
fiction and one non-fiction text to help determine skill
acquisition from the previous lessons. These skill review lessons
demonstrate to students that, in authentic text, reading skills are
not found in isolation but rather in combination with one
another.
The skill reviews also allow students to demonstrate a logical
use of context clues and a real-world comparison of fiction and
informational text.
Math Force
All math lessons contain a skill focus and ample practice
material. In addition, the teacher editions feature "distractor
analysis" and "fixing common errors" sections, giving teachers
strategies to help assess skill acquisition.
Beyond assessment, continuous monitoring helps students acquire
critical skills
The quality design of the Learning Force lessons
provides teachers with continuous information to monitor students’
skill acquisition and progress throughout the program.
- Each Learning Force lesson provides teachers with
questioning strategies and scripted language to help them monitor
students’ skill understanding on a regular basis.
- Teachers can also monitor skills when students demonstrate
skill understanding in their own words when completing graphic
organizers and short answer response questions, since these
questions require individual student answers.
- Beyond the lessons themselves, grade-appropriate classroom
libraries and math manipulatives provide additional opportunities
to evaluate student understanding and observe how students apply
their knowledge.
