Teacher development

Great instruction is the engine that powers student achievement. For this reason, teacher development is a central component of the EdisonLearning Alliance™ model. Alliance™ provides teachers with proven tools as well as a professional development program that meets their individual growth needs – training that helps them become masters of instruction and benefits them throughout their career.

Personalized professional development for teachers

A dedicated Alliance Achievement Team, consisting of general achievement as well as curriculum and instruction specialists, works with school leaders to develop personal growth plans for teachers based on EdisonLearning’s research-based frameworks for highly effective teaching. The team then provides focused coaching and mentoring for teachers that target their identified growth areas.

In addition to one-on-one support, teachers also receive training through a series of site-based professional development sessions that balance skills, theory, and practical implementation techniques. Topics may include:

  • Understanding the school’s strengths and challenges
  • Analyzing student data
  • Using formative assessment to drive and differentiate instruction
  • Creating a positive learning environment
  • Student management

Curriculum Companion Guides

Alliance provides teachers with research-based Curriculum Companion Guides to help bridge the disconnect that often exists between expected outcomes, adopted curriculum, and classroom instruction. Far more than pacing guides, Curriculum Companion Guides are designed to help teachers embed instruction on end-of-year standards and skills in the reading and math curriculum all year long. Strategies for teaching the skills help teachers differentiate instruction for students with special needs, while sample assessment questions offer guidance on how skills are tested on high-stakes exams. Powerful tools in their own right, the Curriculum Companion Guides are a critical part of Alliance’s process for continual instructional improvement, especially when combined with the data from EdisonLearning’s Benchmark Assessment System and the dedicated support of the Alliance Achievement Team.
